All change… the misty, mellow and fruitful autumn is almost upon us and millions of women are rummaging through their underwear drawers in dissatisfaction, realising everything’s a bit tatty.

If I was twenty years younger I’d throw on a pair of shell pink over-the-knee woolly socks, add chunky biker or cowboy boots, mess up my hair, add scarlet lipstick and hit the nearest party. As it is I’m way too old to get my bits out in public without losing my dignity and causing consternation, so I’d wear it with a posh knee-length pencil skirt and a delicate mohair shrug, topped off with a snotty green fitted tweed hunting jacket. Plus a tweedy flat cap to match.
