15 more DIY beauty treatments – Part 2

Here’s my second post about DIY beauty tips, a few more cool ways to keep looking good for less…

  1. Make fantastic hair conditioner by making a raw egg and banana paste. Leave it on for half an hour then rinse it out. It’s very sticky and a bit weird but the results are lovely!
  2. Create a fab all-over body scrub by making a paste from salt and olive oil, for remarkably soft skin
  3. Drink plenty of water, do regular exercise and get loads of sleep. Take a 20 minute walk every day and go to bed early enough so you wake up naturally before the alarm goes off instead of being shocked into wakefulness, which is horrid!
  4. Make your false tan go further by mixing it with cheap moisturiser
  5. Apparently the worst skin damage comes from the sun. Forget expensive anti-wrinkle creams, there’s no scientific evidence that they work. Use Factor 50+ sun block every day instead
  6. Use cinnamon oil to plump up your lips. It’s exactly the same stuff they put in expensive lip-plumping products
  7. Next time you cook rice, use the water to wash your hair and make it super-shiny
  8. Mix the last remnants of your favourite lipstick with plain old Vaseline to make your own lip gloss, great for chilly winter days and an excellent way to prevent chapped lips
  9. If your eye area feels tired and puffy, chill a couple of dessert spoons in the fridge and lie with them on your eyes  for five to ten minutes. Or relax with a couple of slices of cucumber over your eyes
  10. Touch up your French manicure temporarily with Tip-Ex
  11. Use ‘no tears’ baby oil instead of  proprietary make-up remover – you can get a huge bottle for much less than a tiny container of the ‘real’ stuff
  12. Buy French vegetable oil soaps instead of ordinary British soaps – they last forever and they don’t contain animal fat like our soaps do (gross!). I buy mine from Moosie
  13. Instead of a salon facial, use ordinary deep pore cleansing strips to strip the muck from your pores and leave your face squeaky clean
  14. Use a dab of Turmeric on spots and they fade away in no time
  15. Rub olive oil into your fingernails and toenails to soften them up and give them a lovely healthy shine
