Learn to DIY and save £££s

Don’t know a thing about DIY? Wouldn’t know a packet of all-purpose filler if it bit you? Learn a handful of simple DIY skills and you can save a load of cash instead of calling out the professionals for straightforward household repairs. Your local technical college will probably run a DIY course. They generally cost around £100, a real bargain when you can learn so many useful skills to help you with the simpler end of home maintenance jobs like:

  • plumbing
  • painting and decorating
  • bricklaying
  • plastering
  • tiling
  • carpentry
  • general DIY

You’ll learn about the right tools for the job and how to use them. You’ll find out short cuts, tricks and tips and you’ll be taught by an expert. It’ll give your confidence a boost. And DIY can actually be great fun. Once you’ve got the basics under your belt you can hone your skills at home and offer them to friends and family for a small charge. You might find you enjoy the sense of achievement so much that it ultimately leads to a career change!

How much money can you save a year doing your own DIY? How long is a piece of string… if you live in an older house your maintenance costs could be pretty high. If you have a modern home you’ll still have plenty of opportunities to save cash. Remember to keep a note of how much you’ve saved and don’t forget that you can even use DIY discount codes to cut the cost of your DIY equipment.
